Scientists Tout Banaba for Blood Sugar and Metabolic Health

Banaba has been used in folk medicine to treat diabetes with published reports dating back to 1940.  In the past decade scientists have been busy studying banaba and its main active compound called corosolic acid, with a focus on its ability to help diabetic patients.  A new review of this science by researchers from the Creighton University Medical Center, Omaha, NE has found that in addition to banaba’s potent blood sugar lowering properties it also lowers blood fats, is an antioxidant, has anti-inflammatory properties, has anti-fungal and anti-viral properties, is anti-cancer, and even helps build bone.  The researchers concluded that due to its multiple gene regulating benefits it may be able to help those with metabolic syndrome.
