Guggulsterones for Weight Management
Sunday, November 22, 2009 - Byron J Richards, CCNGuggulsterones are the active component of the Aryuvedic herb Commiphora mukul, also known as gugulipids. Several new studies suggest that guggulsterones are helpful for weight loss.
In an animal experiment rats were fed a high fat diet for 16 weeks. As expected, the rats developed increased serum glucose, cholesterol and triglyceride levels along with increase in insulin resistance significantly, in comparison to control animals. The rats fed guggulsterones along with the high fat diet demonstrated significantly improved blood sugar and fat burning metabolism. Furthermore, guggulsterones directly interacted with baby fat cells, inhibiting them from becoming mature fat storing cells. The researchers concluded that “guggulsterone has both hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic effect which can help to cure type II diabetes.â€
Another cell study confirmed the effects of guggulsterone on fat cells. It was shown that guggulsterones decreased the number of mature fat cells, reduced the storage of fat in mature fat cells.
These results show that guggulsterones are promoters of an active fat burning metabolism, protecting against fat accumulation.
